On Wednesday July 4 a group of medical alumni returned to the classroom for a special anatomy lesson. As part of the 150th celebrations of the Melbourne Medical School, alumni were invited to join current students to learn more about the current life and work of the medical school and to tour the anatomy teaching facilities.
In July, the Melbourne Medical School celebrated the achievements of scientific women in the symposium "Women in Medical Research - Passionate Minds". The impressive speaker list included Professor Elizabeth Blackburn AC, Professor Ruth Bishop AO, Professor Fiona Stanley AC and Professor Ingrid Scheffer.
International celebrations for the Melbourne Medical School’s 150th anniversary took place at a gathering of medical alumni in New York City in April.
Head of the Melbourne Medical School, Professor James Best, together with Associate Dean for External Relations, Professor Glenn Bowes, played host to a diverse mix of alumni from the east coast of America, with some guests travelling from as far as Chicago especially for the event.
The diversions and preoccupations of the lives of medical students over 150 years was the subject of the first 150th anniversary exhibition 'A Med Student's Life' at the Medical History Museum. The exhibition opening was accompanied by the launch of the superb catalogue 'Highlights of the Collection' in which fifty selected items from the Medical History Museum's collection are presented.
A sea of umbrellas descended on the Law quadrangle as staff from across the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences arrived for the morning launch of the Melbourne Medical School 150th Anniversary celebrations.
