Med150 Student Ambassador Program

No celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Melbourne Medical School would be complete without its students. The Med150 Student Ambassador Program was created to ensure student involvement in the events and activities throughout the year of 150th celebrations.

The program was run by a committee of nine Faculty-selected students in charge of recruiting, training, delegating and organising a total of 150 medical student volunteers to act as ambassadors for the anniversary. The students played an integral role in the year’s program of activities – they were seated next to distinguished guests at dinners, contributed material to symposia, acted as hosts and ushers at events, and above all, were outstanding representatives of the Melbourne Medical School.

Being ambassadors not only gave the students the chance to begin developing leadership and public engagement skills, but also to meet alumni from many generations – the students’ future mentors and senior colleagues. The program was an overwhelming success, providing the students with a range of opportunities.

The Student Ambassador Program will continue into 2013 across the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences.
